Dr Jordan Curry

BSc (Hons), MSc, FHEA, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Role at Hull York Medical School

Jordan completed his doctoral degree funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research. He has worked as a Research Assistant on various funded projects within exercise oncology and digital technology. He currently works as a Research Associate on the CANFit project, which aims to improve survival outcomes for patients with a higher risk of early recurrence of lung, breast, and bowel cancers through a personalised, home-based exercise programme supported by exercise professionals alongside NHS standard care. In addition, Jordan teaches exercise oncology and special populations, supervises student research, serves as the PPI lead for CANFit, and leads and collaborates on several research projects.

Biography

Jordan obtained a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Exercise Sciences and a Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology. Alongside his studies, he has actively worked in the health and fitness sector for over a decade, gaining valuable practical experience.

In 2019, Jordan joined the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre at Hull York Medical School to pursue a PhD in Medical Sciences, integrating his interests in exercise oncology and digital technology.

He has since completed his PhD and now serves as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Hull York Medical School, where he continues to contribute to research in exercise oncology and digital technology.

Research

Jordan’s research focuses on integrating physical activity and digital technology to enhance quality of life and treatment outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer. He has a particular interest in advanced cancer and exercise, exploring how tailored physical activity interventions can improve treatment efficacy, tolerability, and overall wellbeing in individuals with advanced disease.

His work also emphasises Patient and Public Involvement (PPI), consumer, and stakeholder engagement to ensure that research remains patient-centred and responsive to real-world needs. Through innovative, technology-supported approaches, Jordan aims to develop and evaluate supportive care strategies that address the unique challenges faced by cancer patients across all stages of the disease.

Teaching

Jordan is the course lead for Exercise Oncology, guiding students in understanding the role of exercise and lifestyle behaviours in cancer care, treatment, and survivorship. He also contributes regularly to teaching across several programmes, including Ethics and Professionalism, Anatomy and Physiology, and Advanced Human Physiology.

In addition, Jordan is actively involved in the Gateway to Medicine programme and various Widening Participation activities, supporting initiatives that promote access to higher education and careers in health sciences.
